However the seal between the pump & the elbow should be oil tight as should be the joint between it and the outlet to the bar. The wire clip of the oiler fits into this. The oil pump only turns when the sprocket is turning. If the tip is broke off or worn off, the sprocket will not engage the oiler drive gear. I put a new pump in, new oil line and filter and plugged the hole up by the muffler that had the cap missing and it seems a small amount comes out with the bar off.
