Both should last well and require little maintance, but if ridden easily I'd give the DR the nod in reliability/maintance requirements. However if moded or pushed hard the XR will outlast the DR (or an aircooled xr) by lightyears. have fun #7

It's main drawbacks on the highway compared to the KLR are the lack of fairing, a hard narrow seat and the small fuel tank. Known issues: There's a small chance the NSU bolts can work loose and destroy the gearbox.
